Status Update: Festivals, shows, workshops and a farewell.

July 15, 2024 | 1 Min Read

There has been a lot happening at Circus oz this year. Following on from a sell out season in the Forum in 2023 we have completed two new shows, Smash It as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the first show in an ongoing collaboration with the Kabloom Festival. We have also been running a series of skill-sharing workshops and looking at options for how to get the Melba Spiegeltent up and humming again as a creative venue.

But there is more! Not least of which is the news that Circus Oz will be hosting a Fringe Festival Circus and Physical Theatre Hub out of its Perry Street home in Collingwood this year. Keep your eyes out for the Festival program and come celebrate a month of circus performance, physical theatre, music, special events, and supersized circus energy at its best.

With all that is going on it is with a sense of sadness that we will be saying goodbye to our fabulous General Manger Alonso Pineda.

Since joining Circus Oz at the start 2023 Alonso has played a tremendous role supporting the Company to get back on stage and keep creating new work. His organisational leadership has allowed Circus Oz to consolidate its position, focus and harness its energy, explore alternative operational and business models, and build creative collaborations. His vision, energy, entrepreneurism and positive attitude towards change and adaptation have been invaluable. We look forward to being able to work with him again, and we wish him all the best as he continues to pursue his creative career.

We are looking forward to welcoming a new leadership team following the Festival to help shape and realise the next chapter in Circus Oz’ creative journey. Stay tuned!
